Throwback January – Movies

I probably should have posted this on Thursday in honor of Throwback Thursday, but I didn’t, so here it is!

This month I watched a few movies I first watched when I was a kid-tween. And you know how when you’re little and you watch a scary movie it’s terrifying, but then you watch it again when you’re older and you realize how lame it really was? Well, these movies are nothing like that. These movies are just as good now that I’m 27 as when I first watched them.

The first movie I watched was The Addams Family. I love this movie. I’ve been watching it at least once a month for about 2 years, and it doesn’t get old. There is something that puzzles me about this movie, and that is the opening song. I only remember watching the movies. I don’t remember watching the original TV show, the remake, or the cartoons, yet, I know the original song. How is that even possible? I wonder how it is that I came to hear the original soundtrack. And I actually remember, clearly, knowing the song before watching the movies. And another thing, I don’t remember watching The New Addams Family TV show, however, when I watched the opening of the episode I completely recognized the actors. I’m assuming I watched a few episodes then stopped or something.

I also watched The Addams Family Values.

Another amazing movie I watched was Casper. Such a good movie. And did you guys know that the kid who plays Casper in that one scene is the guy from Final Destination and the guy in Eminem’s video – Stan? I love this movie so much, it still makes me teary. There’s something I would like to discuss about this movie, so if you’ve seen it and remember it, please highlight the blank so you can see my question. Begin spoiler** Remember how when Casper is telling the girl, gosh i forgot her name, about his dad’s invention and how the red liquid is what makes it work. And she’s holding the bottle and he tells her to be careful because it’s the last one? Did you guys noticed that there are semi empty bottles next to it? That means that his dad used it before and brought something back to life! What did he bring back to life?! Better yet, who?! And we know it works, since the red liquid had already been completed. I would have loved to have seen that in a flashback or something. That would have been so cool! Isn’t it cool?! ** End spoiler. Another puzzling thing, I remember knowing about Casper before watching the movie, I wonder if I watched the cartoon at some point with my mom. She too used to love Casper. I highly recommend the Casper the Friendly Ghost cartoons. I played an episode for my students and they loved it.

I also watched Casper Meets Wendy, but it’s not as good in my opinion.

Do any of you remember Disney’s Tower of Terror? I had completely forgotten about it! After watching Casper (which you can watch on YouTube!) Tower of Terror came up as a recommendation. I was a bit older when I watched this movie, but I remember liking it a lot. And I have to say that it was very enjoyable to watch again. Man, Disney movies used to so good! It’s a pity that you can’t really find these anywhere.

Fanmade Tower of Terror movie trailer. I couldn’t find an official one.

The last movie I watched was The Haunted Mansion. Again, another great movie. And I realized that Eddie Murphy was very much a part of my youth. I grew up watching his movies. Whatever happened to him?

Did you watch any of these movies as a kid? Have you watched them recently? Did you like them?

I would like to bring your attention to this awesome trailer.

Tell me that doesn’t look amazing! I dare you! You cant! ’cause that would be a lie and you’re not a liar. Anyway, I love animation movies of this sort and judging by the trailer the story is going to be very interesting. Epic!

I can’t wait!

What?! Miss Peregrine’s is being made into a movie?!?

Whhhaaaaattttt?! Last night I found out that Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children is being made into a movie and it’s being directed by none other than Tim Burton. He’s my favorite director ever! His movies never disappoint. OMG!

Ok, ok. Now I really have to get on with the series. I still haven’t finished the first book. I know, shame on me 😦 . But ahh!! I’m so excited! But maybe I shouldn’t be, I think my expectations are getting a little too high.

The movie is scheduled to be released on December 25, 2016!

Eva Green has been announced as part of the cast and she is awesome! Also, Terence Stamp is part of the cast and I wonder if he’s going to be the grandpa. I kid you not, as I was reading I imagined the grandpa looking a bit like him. Oh! I just checked IMDB, he is! Cool!!!

I’m so excited!!!!

Are you looking forward to this movie too?

John Dies at the End Discussion

These are not my words. This is by far the best discussion I’ve found regarding John Dies at the End, and I just had to share it.

I’ve never been very good at discussing books, everything just comes out jumbled. But the author of this post, Christina Kim, did an excellence job at writing down what I too was thinking.

After reading this post, I feel like I gained a new appreciation for the characters and respect for the book.

I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve recommended this book and movie, but I’m about to do it again. I highly recommend this book, or at least  the movie. It might not be for everyone, but if it is for you, it’ll be one of the best things  you ever read.

Please check out the post discussing the John Dies at the End book and movie. And if you ever do read the book or watch the movie, please let me know. I would love to talk about it with you!

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor Review and Dream Casting

Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherworldly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real, she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious “errands”, she speaks many languages – not all of them human – and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When beautiful, haunted Akiva fixes fiery eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

Synopsis from

My Review:

Score 3/5

The world created by Laini Taylor is absolutely beautiful. Her gift for description is amazing, you devour her words and create a world like no other. Karou is not your average teenager, she leads a double life. In one she is your typical teenager, blue hair included, and in the other she calls chimera family and travels around the world collecting teeth. Teeth? Yes, teeth. Why? Karou doesn’t know herself. Brimstone, chimera and father figure, sends Karou on “errands” around the world. Her task is to collect teeth from hunters, grave robbers, and other unpleasant individuals in exchange for wishes. During one of these errands something unexpected happens. She meets the most beautiful creature she has ever seen, he in turn tries to kill her. Soon after, Karou’s only means of communication with her chimera family are cut. She is left stranded and alone in the human world. But is she really alone? Karou senses someone watching her, who? And why?

This book was a page turner. The mystery of the teeth and the mystery of who Karou really is had me glued to this book. Needless to say the ending left me wanting more, I need to know what happens next! The reason I only gave it 3/5 is because this is a romance novel. I was not aware that it was and as I am not a fan of romance, I felt that when the story focused on romance, it dragged. However, the love, passion, and longing between the characters was beautifully described. If you are a fan of romance and beautiful worlds, this is the book for you. Had this book focused a bit less on the romance and more on the other things happening in the book, I would have definitely given it a 5/5. This books also touches on prejudice based on race and appearance which I found to be very relatable since we live in a world where prejudice and racism are a problem.

Main character / Teenager, dark eyes, blue hair, fair skin

Dream Actress:

Imogen Poots

As I was reading I imagined someone with similar features. Can you imagine Imogen with with blue hair, stunning! Sure, she has blue eyes but nothing contacts can’t change, if we want to be picky.

Main character, love interest / Tall, “fire/blazing” eyes, most beautiful creature anybody has ever laid eyes upon.

Dream Actor:

Jared Padalecki

This is pretty close to how Akiva is described in the book (in my opinion of course) except that Akiva has short black hair. So Akiva is supposed to be beautiful beyond comparison and not every body is going to agree that Mr. Padalecki is handsome, but his features are similar to what I imagined.

Best friend / Tiny and fierce

Dream Actress:

Hayden Panettiere

Fierce and petite, perfect.

Ex-boyfriend, sleaze bag

Shoulder length blond hair, hot (for a human)

Dream Actor:

Jake Abel

To be honest, Jake Abel was who I imagined when I thought of Akiva, however, I figured Akiva should look older than Karou. Also, I’m not too sure about Jake’s physique and in the book Akiva is tall, well toned, with broad shoulders (if I remember correctly). I figured he would make a pretty good Kaz too though.

Jake Abel

Who is your dream cast? Do you agree with my choices?

I promise next time there will be  more diversity 😉

WOW! Well I was looking for the characters’ names because I forgot (I know shame on me) and it turns out that a MOVIE REALLY IS COMING OUT! Wow!
